Tips for Food Prep & Planning

Article Date: 29-12-2017

While I sit here drinking coffee and eating my freshly made tuna, rice and mixed salad that I prepped earlier today, it got me thinking that a lot of people get lost when it comes to their diet. Which is normally down to a failure to prepare food in advance, which is a big thing most of our clients struggle with when they first join with us.

Peoples failure to prepare food normally comes down to the good old saying "I just don't have time", which can be true, maybe because it’s not been done with a time conscious effort in mind. I mean, if you were to try and prep your food every night, it absolutely is going to be a bearer on your time.

So, what can we do to ensure we utilize our time properly to avoid the following:

  1. Avoid poor food choices that will be made
  2. Likely over eat
  3. We defiantly aren't learning or educating ourselves if we don’t food prep
  4. We may even end up missing vital meals if you are trying to put on a little timber
  5. It can become very expensive eating out

Now let's take a look at what actions we can make that helps us avoid the majority of the above:

  1. Start batch cooking meals on a Sunday - this is a great way to ensure we get quality home cooked meals throughout the week, this doesn't just have to be done on a Sunday just pick an hour in the week and be productive.
  2. Make more then you need to eat dinner - this way we can use the left overs for breakfast or lunch the next day.
  3. Getting up 30 mins to 1 hour earlier in the morning to make a proper breakfast - We say to our clients “if you get breakfast right this normally has a great knock on effect for the rest of the day”, but if you get it wrong , don’t panic, missing meals is not the end of the world.
  4. Make things easier for yourself and make meals that are quick and simple - there are plenty of 15 mins recipes in our cookbooks, have a good read of these pick 3-5 quick and easy recipes and master them.
  5. Make sure you've always got food in the fridge and cupboards - not having food in at home may offset your planning when it comes to food prep. If it's not there to start with, you may reach out for poor food choices when you’re Hungry.

So there you have a few very basic ways we use to ensure dietary adherence.
